Officially, this is known as the National Finals Qualification System and each competitor, in each event, in each region will gain points according to the following scale:
| 1st place: | 10 points | 2nd place: | 8 points |
| 3rd place: | 6 points | 4th place: | 5 points |
| 5th place: | 4 points | 6th place: | 3 points |
A competitor completing an event (withdrawal and elimination mean the event was not completed) and not finishing in one of the above places will gain 1 point.
Points are accumulated throughout the season on a regional basis. Points accumulated in one region may not be added to those points gained in another region.
National Finals' Qualification:-
Competitors will qualify from each class, in each region as follows:
| Junior | the highest points | Open Pony | highest points |
| Novice Pony | highest & second highest points | Open Horse | highest points |
| Novice Horse | highest points | Multiples | Pair & Tandem with highest points |
The qualifiers on the above scale will be determined by adding together the points gained from placings in one region less the scores from one event (i.e. a region with six events will count scores in 5 events). In the event of a tie the results in the extra event will count.
All the previous season's National Indoor Champions have the right to defend their titles and do not have to pre-qualify.
The IHDT Ltd, as the organisers of the Championship Finals, reserve the right to issue invitations to further competitors, as they shall see fit.
